“I do not get to do fun things anymore because of work!”

Have you ever spoken this sentence recently?

If you have, I must say, you are already at the point of burning yourself out at work.

Being an employed individual, may it be in a corporation or startup, is definitely a stressful endeavor. In the Philippine context, employees are often required to work 8 hours a day. If you think about it, 8 hours out of 24 hours within a day, it is not much, right? Unfortunately, accounting traffic (which, sad to say, is very prevalent especially in the metro) and over time how many hours do you think you have left for unwinding? Hmmm… I got you thinking there, right?

One piece of advice: always allocate a time for you to relax after work. In fact, working overtime is not that much encouraged, especially if it does not entail you doing more things that you are used to. Take note: some managers do not see it as a sign of commitment, but rather, a manifestation of your inability to manage your time well.

In fact, according to Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, it is a must to leave office on time. Indeed, as long as your responsibilities are within range of what is required of you, finishing it on time is the best way of showing your efficiency and effectiveness, definitely not overtime.

Allocating some time for yourself to relax in one way for you to regenerate energy and enthusiasm the next day. It makes you look, and feel, less tired, and more importantly, it makes you more productive. Moreover, it also makes you work better the next day or next week.

That is exactly the culture that HiGi is trying to inculcate to its members. In order to avoid burning out, it is encouraged to participate in some relaxation activities every weekend. True to itself, it made us, its members, more energized to work the following weekdays!

It need be through doing something outside. For us, indoor activities can also be sufficient already. Really, anything that can relieve stress is worth doing as of this point.

All I am saying is that while being immersed in the corporate world, it is not wrong to indulge in some guilty pleasures once in a while. It is not a sin to want to pamper oneself after a whole day or week of earning a living. Believe me, you owe it to yourself as well.
